Registered Psychologist · Southeast Calgary & Online Across Alberta
When your child is struggling — with worry, low mood, school, or friendships — you don't have to figure it out alone. With over 26 years in private practice, Dr. Julie Robinson provides caring, evidence-based counselling that helps young people (and their parents) move forward with confidence.
"My once-happy kid seems anxious, withdrawn, or quick to anger — and I don't know why."
"School mornings have become a daily battle, and the worry follows us home."
"My teen won't talk to me anymore. I'm worried it's more than a phase."
"My young adult feels stuck — overwhelmed by school, work, or what comes next."
These are among the most common reasons families reach out — and they respond well to counselling. Asking for help isn't a last resort. It's one of the strongest first moves a parent can make.
About Dr. Robinson
Dr. Julie Robinson is a Registered Psychologist who has spent more than 26 years in private practice helping children, adolescents, and young adults navigate life's rough patches. She completed her doctoral training at the University of Denver's School of Professional Psychology and has built her Calgary practice on a simple idea: young people do better when they feel genuinely understood.
Her approach is warm, practical, and grounded in evidence. Sessions move at your child's pace — building trust first, then working on real-world skills for managing anxiety, low mood, stress, friendships, school, and the big transitions of growing up. Parents are never left on the outside: you'll come away with insight into what's going on and concrete ways to help at home.

Getting Started Is Simple
Send a short email to info@drjulierobinson.com with a little about what's going on. No forms, no phone tag — just tell your story in your own words.
In the first session you'll get comfortable, get clear on what you'd like to be different, and leave with a realistic plan — including how parents will be involved.
Sessions build practical, evidence-based skills your child can actually use. Progress is reviewed together, openly — so you always know how things are going.
Questions Parents Ask
If changes in mood, behaviour, sleep, friendships, or school performance have lasted more than a few weeks — or your instincts are simply telling you something is off — it's worth reaching out. You don't need to wait for a crisis. Early support is often the most effective support, and a first conversation carries no obligation.
Dr. Robinson specializes in children, teens, and young adults — and supports the parents and family members walking alongside them.
Yes. You can meet in person in Southeast Calgary, or by secure video and teleconference from anywhere in Alberta. Many teens and young adults prefer video — whatever works best for your family works here.
Most extended health benefit plans in Alberta include coverage for services provided by a Registered Psychologist. Coverage amounts vary by plan, so it's a good idea to check with your provider before your first visit. You'll receive receipts for reimbursement.
No — you can book directly with a psychologist in Alberta. Some insurance plans do ask for a physician's referral before they reimburse sessions, so check your policy if you plan to claim.
Trust is what makes counselling work — especially with teens. Parents stay involved in goals and progress, while the details a young person shares stay private within the limits of safety. Exactly how confidentiality works is explained clearly to both of you in the first session, so there are no surprises.
It depends on the concern and the goals you set together. Many families notice meaningful change within the first several sessions. Progress is reviewed openly and regularly — no open-ended commitments.
The first session is about getting comfortable and getting clear: what's going on, what you'd like to be different, and what a realistic path forward looks like. For younger children, parents are typically part of this conversation. There's no pressure — just a calm, judgement-free starting point.
If something feels off, an email is a low-pressure first step. Share a little about what's going on, and you'll receive a reply with next steps and available times.
